I’m using the original Sizzix Bigz dies in the Tim Holtz Village collection. These are retired and available on eBay at prices I can only describe as completely insane. I mean, I like them and all, but seriously?
If you are going to eBay, I think the item to buy is pre-cut pieces. Multiple sellers will do the die cutting and sell you a set of pre-cut pieces in white cardstock, black cardstock, or chipboard for $3-$10 depending on the set. (I am not among them. Just mentioning this as a way to try out the village without buying the dies.)
A slightly smaller scale version is available as thin dies, available from Sizzix on their own website for $85 or from Sizzix on Amazon for $46. (Sizzix prices are regularly lower on Amazon than on their own website, so always check.) This price is better than the price I’m seeing secondhand right now.

This thinlit set includes all of the buildings, additions, towers, roof tiles, window frames, and doors but does not include some of the decorative items from the original Bigz like trees, fence, surfboard, etc.
There is also an even smaller scale set of dies with fewer options and add-ons called Paper Village 664741 and Paper Village #2 665585.
