Sizzix Eileen Hull Hardbound Journal #666882 and Journal Hardware #666814
These two steel rule dies have hit clearance at many retailers. While I don’t mean to encourage shopping (use your craft supplies!) I’m listing some shopping links below. None of these are affiliate links.
I found that detailed information about the dies was a little difficult to find. Sizzix seems to not be showing the detailed measurements. I have measured every item carefully and you can download the PDFs I created.
The cover and spine ARE symmetrical top to bottom. The holes will align if you flip a piece over.
In addition, I found myself sifting through multiple YouTube videos and shorts to find information about how to bind the journal. I think the search was hampered by the common name of the die (and I’ll admit my search skills are not all they could be and my attention span is short.) Nevertheless, I’ve taken all the instructions I could find and made three versions of the hardbound journal.
Version 1: cut the cover and pages from lightweight paper, score all at 3/4”, and use a Japanese stab-binding stitch. Demonstrated in this short https://youtube.com/shorts/pytzGtv2FnQ?si=CkkQ0WMWJqaLZfhc
Version 2: cut the cover from hardboard and pages from lightweight paper, die-cutting the stitching holes on folded pages. Demonstrated by Eileen Hull in this live at about the 26 minute mark https://www.youtube.com/live/R1bPYdmHVI4?si=hmMHHozjFeEO2wz-
Version 3: cut the cover and pages from anything you like, using the die just as it is, and use 1” rings through the die-cut holes (me)
Won’t work: aligning the holes on the spine to the cover. The space on each row of holes on the spine is not the same as the margin between the holes and the edge of the cover.
