July 14 is the national day of France, the Fete Nationale Francaise , and it commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison. This was part of a series of events in the summer of 1789 that culminated in ending feudalism in France and replacing it with a constitutional government although the monarchy dragged on in fits and starts for another century.
The holiday is celebrated in many places around the world, but especially in the French overseas departments, which are former colonies that are now treated just like any part of mainland France including full representation in the National Assembly and Senate. The holiday is also celebrated in former colonial areas such as Canada, New Orleans, and Pondicherry in India, as well as places that just love an excuse for good food and a party. One notable celebration in the USA is in Newport, Rhode Island, where French troops landed during the American Revolution.
The holiday is marked in Paris with the oldest and largest military parade in Europe, which runs down the Champs-Elysees starting at the Arc de Triomphe and ending at the Place de la Concorde.
The Eiffel Tower was built about 100 years later for the World’s Fair. The tower is built of wrought iron and know as “La Dame de Fer” or Iron Lady. It’s regularly painted to prevent rust, using a medium-brown color.
If a trip to Paris is not in your plans, there are small versions in Las Vegas and Paris Texas, where the tower wears a red cowboy hat.
The particular Sizzix steel rule die I used is discontinued, but there are a range of Eiffel Tower products from rub-on transfers to single die cuts to stamp sets. Here is a selection:

I did some mirror stamping for today’s prompt, “balance.” Find all the Junk Journal July prompts on Instagram and YouTube @megjournals.
The trick here is to stamp the first time on paper and the second time onto a silicone placemat, then pick the ink up in a reverse image. Any non-porous surface would work!

There’s a little bit of an inside joke in my family that I’m Julie, your cruise director, since I’ve put together so many local outings. One such had us going downtown to the observation deck of the highest building, eating lunch at a top 100 restaurant (that my mother thought was a dive), going to the fancy downtown park, and touring City Hall and the tunnel system.
